Ice Maker Repair Tips

Ice gets stuck or dispenses slowly

When an ice maker is unable to dispense ice effectively, there are a number of things you can check to diagnose the problem.
  • Check to see if the ice in your ice maker has melted and then re-froze again.  Generally, this is happening if you are seeing large clumps of ice stuck together.  This is the direct cause of ice clogging the shoot and not dispensing correctly, or at all.

  • Another possible reason is if the raker bar is not distributing the ice evenly in the box.  This can happen when the raker itself has ice around it, preventing it from doing the job, making it so that ice builds up unevenly and the ice maker stops making ice.

  • Check the chute that the ice come where the ice drops into the ice box.  Sometimes debris and ice will clog the chute preventing new ice from being made.

Ice maker is not making ice

When an ice maker stops making ice, there are some troubleshooting steps you can go through to better diagnose the problem.
  • Check the water supply valve and water line that leads directly into the ice maker.  Sometimes this line can become get kinked, corroded or is just plain worn out and needs to be replaced in order for the ice maker to make ice.

  • Check the filter to make sure that it is not clogged.  Filters remove impurities from water before ice is made, so the ice cubes don't taste bad.  Over time the filter can become clogged, blocking the flow of water to the ice maker.  If you have not changed the filter recently, it might be a good idea to do it.

  • If these steps don't resolve the problem, call an appliance repair professional to troubleshoot and fix the problem.
