Parts, and why the badge matters

LG parts come through LG. Some LG fridges need work on the sealed refrigerant system, and not every shop is licensed to do it, because handling refrigerant legally takes EPA 608 certification. We'll tell you straight whether your unit needs that kind of work. That's the repair that decides whether the fridge is worth keeping.

We quote a flat rate before starting, and nobody here works on commission. So a cheap repair stays a cheap repair, not a pitch for a new machine.

LG tips from our technicians

Specific to LG, not general appliance advice — several of these will save you a call outright.

  1. Tell us exactly how it's cooling

A fridge running all the time with BOTH sides warm points at the linear compressor and the sealed refrigerant system. One side warm and the other cold points at a fan or damper, for a fraction of the cost. Those sound alike on the phone, and they're very different repairs.

  2. Check the model and serial before paying for a compressor

LG has extended coverage on some linear compressors. Find out whether yours is still covered before anyone quotes you. We check it for you, so you don't have to.

  3. A washer that won't spin is usually a sensor

Direct drive means there's no belt and no transmission, so on an LG a no-spin is much more often the rotor position sensor than the big mechanical failure it would point to on other brands.

  4. Check the bottom of the door boot for tears

Fold back the rubber seal around the door of your front-loader and look at its lowest point. Gunk collects there and tears it, and you get a leak that only shows up during spin.

  5. Damp clothes are often the thermistor, not the element

On LG dryers the thermistor is a small sensor that tells the board how hot the drum is. When it drifts, the dryer heats but never quite finishes the job. From the outside, it doesn't look like a sensor problem at all.

Repair it or replace it?

LG builds to last longer than most mass-market brands, so repairing stays worth it longer than it does on a budget unit. Not nearly as long as a built-in, though. What decides it almost every time is whether the problem is inside the sealed refrigerant system. If it isn't, most LG repairs are worth doing.

LG repair questions

  • Do you repair LG appliances in Arizona?

Yes, all over Pinal and Maricopa County. LG fridges and laundry are both common here, and we work on both.

  • Do you need certification to repair an LG refrigerator?

For work on the sealed refrigerant system, yes. Handling refrigerant legally takes EPA 608 certification. Fan, damper, defrost, board and ice maker repairs don't.

  • Is an LG linear compressor failure worth repairing?

It depends on how old the unit is and whether it's still covered. LG has extended coverage on some compressors, so check the model and serial before you pay for anything. We'll tell you what we find before we quote.

  • What makes LG laundry different to repair?

The direct-drive motor connects straight to the drum with no belt or transmission, so a whole group of problems just isn't there. A washer that won't spin is usually the rotor position sensor, not a transmission, and that's a smaller repair.
