Parts, and why the badge matters

KitchenAid is Whirlpool’s premium line, and for repair that's a great mix. They're built better than regular Whirlpool, with better materials and quieter running, but they still use Whirlpool parts. So you get high-end equipment with everyday parts that are easy to get. Most luxury brands make you trade one for the other. We can usually find the problem on a KitchenAid dishwasher or built-in fridge and fix it in one visit, instead of waiting on a special part only the maker sells. That means it's worth repairing a lot longer than the price tag would suggest, and it's the main reason we rarely tell anyone to replace one.

We quote a flat rate before starting, and nobody here works on commission. So a cheap repair stays a cheap repair, not a pitch for a new machine.

KitchenAid tips from our technicians

Specific to KitchenAid, not general appliance advice — several of these will save you a call outright.

  1. Quiet can hide a failing pump

These are better insulated than regular Whirlpools, so a circulation pump on its way out is much harder to hear. The dishes start coming out dirty before you hear anything, so people think it's the soap.

  2. High-end machine, everyday parts

KitchenAid is Whirlpool's premium line, so it uses Whirlpool parts. You get a better-built machine with parts that cost what everyday parts cost. That makes it worth fixing a lot longer before replacing makes sense.

  3. Put a thermometer inside the oven

When the temperature sensor drifts, the oven shows the temperature it thinks it hit. The display looks right while everything bakes wrong, and only a separate oven thermometer will show you.

  4. Check the door before blaming the element

On worn hinges, a heavy wall-oven door stops closing square and leaks heat the whole time. Uneven baking is a door or hinge problem far more often than an electrical one.

  5. Line up a built-in door after any repair

On a built-in fridge with a door panel that matches the cabinets, once it's been pulled out, the door has to be lined back up correctly. If it isn't, the seal never closes right, and you get frost and a fridge that runs all the time.

Repair it or replace it?

KitchenAid is in a good spot. It's built better than regular Whirlpool, but it uses the same cheap, easy-to-get parts. A repair that's borderline on a builder-grade machine is usually a clear yes here, because the KitchenAid has more years left in it and the part costs no more. We'll still tell you straight when one has reached the end. On a KitchenAid, that just tends to come later than most people expect.

KitchenAid repair questions

  • Is KitchenAid the same as Whirlpool?

KitchenAid is Whirlpool’s premium line. They're built better, with better materials, but they use Whirlpool parts. So it's high-end equipment with everyday parts that are easy to get.

  • Are KitchenAid parts expensive?

No, and that's the good news. They share parts with Whirlpool, so a part costs what an everyday part costs, not what luxury parts usually run.

  • Is a KitchenAid worth repairing?

Usually, yes, and it's not a close call. It has more life in it than a builder-grade machine and the parts cost no more, so repairs make sense a lot longer.

  • Do you repair KitchenAid built-in refrigeration?

Yes, and the dishwashers and wall ovens too, all over Pinal and Maricopa County.
